An unpublished Samarian obol with an Aramaic letter

SAMARIA. 'Pseudo-Athenian' Series. Circa 375-333 BC. Obol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.81 g, 3 h). Degraded head to right (?). Rev. Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig; to right, crescent above 𐡌 ('m' in Aramaic). CS -, cf. 99 (reverse symbols). Meshorer & Qedar -, cf. 218 (reverse symbols). Sofaer -, cf. 15 (differing obverse and reverse symbols). Apparently unpublished, a highly interesting issue. Some scratches, otherwise, very fine.


There were previously no inscriptions known on this series, but the Aramaic letter Mim (𐡌) is clearly recognizable on this coin.
